Emporia City Commissioners will now await word from Lyon County Commissioners on the potential annexation of property into the city limits.

During their regular action meeting Wednesday, commissioners approved a resolution requesting the Lyon County Commission to make certain findings to support the annexation of Industrial Park IV. City Zoning Administrator Justin Givens says the main focus for the county will be ensuring the annexation will not cause any impediments to the surrounding area.

If county commissioners find sufficient reason for the annexation an ordinance for the matter will be presented at a future meeting. An exact date for when the county will take up the matter is currently pending.

On a separate, yet somewhat related note, commissioners also approved the annexation of property at 1022 South Weaver into the city. The property owner applied for annexation to utilize the city's water service through a water main located along South Weaver according to Givens.

In other business Wednesday, commissioners opened a brief public hearing regarding the tax abatement status of S&S Quality Meats LLC. Certain aspects of the process are still in development at this time, however, as the city had previously published the public hearing for Wednesday it was statutorily required to hold said meeting.

That being said, due to work still ongoing, commissioners continued the public hearing until June 7 at which time public input will be received.

In other action Wednesday commissioners:*Approved the appointment of members to the human resources and natural resources advisory boards.*Authorized the issuance of general obligation bonds for infrastructure improvements within the Mahtropolis Subdivision.*Awarded a bid for sanitary sewer and water main improvements within the Mahtropolis Subdivision.*Rejected and rebid a contract for hauling and beneficial land application of biosolids*Approved the purchase of Valve Actuators*Approved the purchase of sewer cam camera systems*Approved the purchase of a mower for the city's Parks Department.

Following their action meeting, commissioners convened for their regular study session with the main items of discussion being revenue sources, fund balances, personnel and capital projects as well as an invitation to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo picnic and the commission's July 5th action meeting.

Commissioners will reconvene for their next regular slate of meetings on Wednesday, June 7 inside of the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium.
